A 1930's Crackled Popeye Bust


Sold for $30 (before premium) at Skinner.

He yam what he weren't. I remember an episode of antique roadshow which warned no one will collect popeye anymore, as folks don't remember him. The $30 might indicate that, but then I read another superman comic record was broken...1.5 million for number one?

Yeah, I do think that most kids at least don't know who Popeye is. I was surprised it went for $30 though. Maybe it's too idiosyncratic for some tastes? That's why I like it. Almost seems like something H.C. Westermann would make.

I was going to bid on it, but what I hate about these auctions are all the added costs, in addition to premium, for online bidders: sales tax, shipping, handling, so, my $50 bid would end up being over $100. Makes it hard to be competitive.
