Early 20th Century Pipe Holder with Carved Nude

Possibly an end of day whimsey, this sculpture was carved out of a brick and painted with silver radiator paint. I don't smoke, but it will make a good business card holder! Found in Galesburg, Illinois.

The Three Graces Table

Three standing nudes were carved in 1917 by a man in Eustis, FL. whose mother wouldn't allow the ladies in the house. The ladies were put in storage until Mom "met her maker." The table was made in 1960 and the ladies were added. Three carved wooden nudes - carved grapes under to top.  21"t x 30"l. The Table was exhibited at the Florida State Fair at which it won an award.

Early Folk Art Carved Plaque of a Nude Woman

Available here. Update: Sold for $492.09.

A loyal reader just informed me that this folk carving is based on the original painting "September Morn" by Paul Emile Chabas in 1912. It was displayed in a window of an art gallery in Chicago and the owner of the art gallery was charged with indecency. The resulting court case, which the artist won, made the painting famous. It's now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Thanks Diane!

Folk Art Sculpture of a Nude Woman by W.L. Bourdeau

The folk artist W.L. Bourdeau apparently lived and worked in Ranger, Texas and all of his extant works seem to have been made between the 1950's and 1960's.

Odd Fellows Antiques sold a few sculptures by the artist, which can still be viewed here.

This sculpture was recently found in Florida. Measures 18" tall.
