Stephen was a visiting artist at Ohio State in 1982. We used to spend a lot of time talking about art. I would see him in NYC for years after that. He is one of the smartest guys I know. He
is also still a great painter.

Man, you're really lucky to know the guy. I think he makes some of the best paintings around. It doesn't surprise me to find out that he's a smart guy- it takes a great talent to make a seemingly reductive, hard-edged style so expansive, witty and generous.

Tell him he has a fan in Los Angeles!
