where do you collect those from?

This piece I recently picked up from a folk art dealer at Brimfield. Flying home with it wasn't fun as the thing weighs a hefty 11 lbs.!

do you know if it was made as a sculpture or a model? etc?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't made as a model, at least I've never seen any forms carved out of stone for a shoe model. I think it may have been used as a counter sign or possibly just a whimsey or as a doorstop. I guess the mystery is what attracted me to it.
