American Folk Art Scarecrow

Circa 1930's folk art scarecrow built out of branches, fenceboards and furniture pulls. According to tradition, this is one of six of these scarecrows, four of which went to the artist's children, and two went to galleries. This is one of those two. The other is pictured in the Ricco/Maresca book, American Primitive.

Folk Art Bust of a Man

Early 20th century folk art carved bust of a man. Environmental weathering suggests it was possibly used as a scarecrow head. Found in Pennsylvania.

Interesting head currently on eBay. Here's a cut and paste from the auction listing:

It is 10" high and has some painted highlights on the eyes, eyebrows, lips, and ears. The carving marks are evident. I bought this when I lived in Texas over 25 years ago. It was said to have come from the Indiana area.
