Ka-Be-Nah-Gwey-Wence at 129 years old


RPPC of John Smith (Ka-Be-Nah-Gwey-Wence) at 129 years old. He was a Chippewa Indian from Cass Lake, Minnesota. Sold on eBay for $29.95.

I agree. I wonder about the things he's seen in 129 years, especially during the time that this was taken (the postcard was printed in 1918, so we can assume sometime before that). So, can you imagine him being born in the late 18th century (maybe 1789 or around there) and seeing the changes to his native land. No wonder there's some sadness to that face.

And it's almost as if his eyes are disappearing. All that he's seen has caused the bark to grow creating a place to hide. It's an amazing face.
