1870's Folk Art Carpenter's Chest with Tintype Portrait

American, ca 1870, pine of nailed construction. A folksy decorated box having a tintype portrait of who was likely the original owner in a geometric tin mount in addition to other painted geometric shapes; all cut from tin and attached with oval head tacks. The lid bears an applied carved wooden saw; retains the original lock; painted green and gold, the geometric shapes in red, black and yellow; 12" high x 19" wide x 10.5" deep.

Sold for $1,035.00 at Cowan's.

I love objects with embedded photographs. The little saw on top is just great, too.

Yeah, the saw just completes it! Great item and I would've paid $ 1035 for it...:(
