It reminds me of the farmhouses in Switzerland where the barn was beneath the families living quarters. Any indication as to where this photo was taken?
quite likely a "blockhouse" which was a type of fort used, at least they told me as a kid...to "protect from indians". maybe this was being reconstruced for a tourist site?
