19th Century Painted Tintype of Two Children

One of the best I've seen. Sold for $237.06 on eBay.

  1. That IS nice. It looks more like what were known as "crayon portraits" than a tintype. Crayon portraits were those horrid things done over lightly exposed photographic images to make portraits. Same process at work here, but tintype. Always nice to see a primitive painter at work, even if he is "cheating" on iron.
    Thanks!

  2. When I first saw the listing, at first glance it almost had a Mexican ex-voto feel to it because the figures in the space are smaller than what I'm used to seeing these portraits and it feels more like a scene. Sure wish I got this one, but I was blown out of the water!
