Civil War Folk Art Portrait on a Beech Nut Shell
Folk art carved portrait on a beech nut shell, said
to be the likeness of James Joyner Jr., and carved by him shortly
before his death at 46 in 1888. Joyner was the friend of Joseph F.
Ridgaway, second in command aboard the Confederate Submarine "H.L. Hunley" and
among the crew of eight who died aboard the vessel.
