Original Suffragette Protest Sign
From the seller's description:
This is about as good as it gets for original period suffragette material. Included in this lot are two items. 1. Original diploma of Margaret Garrigues Leyden ( spelled Garrigus - before she was married - she was known as Maggie), from the East Avenue Collegiate Institute in Rochester, NY. In walnut frame - undisturbed. With frame, measures 21 x 16 1/2 inches. In very good condition. The diploma itself is a rare piece of Rochester history in itself. Add the suffrage connection, and it is much better. It is also signed by the principal, Peck, a known Rochesterian from the period. 2. Original picket sign with "Equal Rights" written on one side, and "Womans Rights" on the other. Made of cloth nailed to boards. Just as it was found. Found under the floor boards in a house. Measures 24 x 19 inches, not including the handle. Looks to be ca. late 1800s, early 1900s. In good condition for its age. Cloth is ripped and faded in spots. The writing is somewhat faded. Some cleaning and conservation would help. It is untouched.
