Recently acquired this gem. A circa 1930's folk art carving of a nude woman, very similar in style to Chinese ivory medicine ladies that were used to show doctor's where certain parts of the body were being affected.
Hermann Dudley Murphy (American, 1867-1945), Poppies, 1928, o/c, 25" x 30", signed LR "H. Dudley Murphy", inscribed verso: Poppies / H Dudley Murphy / 19 M 28. This painting retains its original frame incised: 19 M 28. Provenance: an estate, New Jersey. Exhibited: Boston Art Club, c. 1928.
Currently up for auction at Kaminski Auctions.

Thanks to blog reader losfeld who reminded me of the outsider photography of Miroslav Tichy. Self-made voyeurism at it's best. I first heard of this artist in the book "Create and Be Recognized", which has an entry on his work. There are a couple of other books out on him as well as an exhibition of his work this past February at Tanya Bonakdar Gallery.

This one is sort of inexplicable to me: 2 folk art carved figures of marginal quality and a 1938 date sold for a whopping $ 2600.00 at Green Valley Auctions recently. Maybe it's just me, but I think these were insanely overvalued.
